Endoscopic Plantar Fascia Release

Endoscopic Plantar Fascia Release is a minimally invasive procedure used to remove a part or all of a plantar fascia, with an endoscopic camera and specialized tools. This procedure is performed to address the pain caused by chronic Plantar Fasciitis. Plantar Fasciitis is a common condition that affects the plantar fascia, a thick tissue located at the bottom of the foot between the toes and the heel, which supports the foot’s arch.

The Endoscopic Plantar Fascia Release is performed with local or regional anesthetic and, in some cases, with sedation. During the plantar release surgery, the surgeon makes a small incision in one, or both sides of the foot, and inserts a cannula. Following that step, the surgeon inserts an endoscopic camera into the cannula, and uses it to inspect the plantar fascia. Upon inspection, the surgeon inserts a cutting instrument into the cannula, and removes a part of the plantar fascia.

Upon the completion of the Endoscopic Plantar Fascia Release, the surgeon removes the tools used, and closes the incisions. The patient’s foot will be placed into a surgical shoe, splint, or cast. The healing time takes several weeks, and physical therapy may be required in order to complete the recovery process.
